Wintertide 2024

This Saturday, 30th November, I will be at Wintertide, a beautiful seasonal market with over 50 designers, makers, creators and some epic looking food from across the South West.

It’s the first time i’ll be taking my book, Dartmoor Unedited, out into the wild myself.

But it’s not just the book that I’ll be taking along. Behind the scenes i’ve been exploring how I can carry the same ethos over into creating other products. So i’ll have two other things with me that are a bit of an experiment:

I’ve curated a range of prints which will be on sale for the first time at the event. I’ve tried to carry the environmental focus from the creation of the book over into the prints. The paper used is carbon neutral and is created from de-inked post consumer waste (recycled) paper. The print supplier i’m using has also made sure to use chlorine free processing techniques which also cuts down on their water usage. The wrapping may look like plastic, but it’s actually a plant starch derived product, so it’s 100% biodegradable. Even the backing card keeping the prints nice and rigid and the sticker with my details on are both recycled and recyclable.

The final product is the result of something I need to confess. My name is Tom and i’m a stationary addict. I’ve got a collection of fountain pens, and have always loved writing implements and notebooks. So it was inevitable that at some point i’d attempt something on this line. I’m pleased to release a range of notebooks at Wintertide.

These notebooks are A5 and each one features one of my images on the cover and back. The snowy image of Ripon Tor is square grid, the sheep in the mist is lined, and the Venford Falls option is dot grid. I’ve done some testing and they cope well with even the wettest of my fountain pens without ink bleeding through. The production of the notebooks is carbon neutral on 140GSM FSC certified papers, and the cover images are printed using vegetable inks.

Wintertide looks to be a beautiful event with talented people from across the South West bringing their crafts all to one place for you to enjoy.

It is taking place on Saturday 30th November in Buckfastleigh from 10am to 5pm. I will be located in the Town Hall. Further details on the event are available here.

This is the first time i’ve ever done an event like this, so i’m both excited and nervous to see how it goes.

Hopefully see you there!
