Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to Photographs by Tom dot com. I’m interested in capturing and sharing authentic images of the world, your event or business, not snooping into your life. Here's my straightforward approach to handling your information. Seriously, I have zero desire to know what you had for breakfast or your dog's middle name, ok that last one is a lie. So here's the rundown on what I do (and mostly don't do) with your information.

Information Collected

1. Info You Provide

  • Email Address: If I start a newsletter i’ll need your email address. If you buy something from the shop I’ll need it too. I won’t send you cat photos, I promise.

  • Name: If you share it, I’ll use it for personalised greetings and account setup.

I won’t share either of these datasets with anyone, not even if they offer me free camera gear.

The only information sharing taking place is documented on this page. Its primarily because this website is hosted by Squarespace. Squarespace collects personal data when you visit this website, including:

  • Information about your browser, network and device

  • Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website

  • Web pages you view while on this website

  • Your IP address

Squarespace needs the data to run this website, and to protect and improve its platform and services. Squarespace analyzes the data in a de-personalized form.

2. Info I Care For, But Don’t Care About

  • Personal Preferences: Like your favorite ice cream flavour. Totally irrelevant to me, though my choice would be vanilla, honeycomb or lemon in case its relevant to you. I might be interested in your dog but, in the nicest possible way, I don’t need to collect data on him/her - by all means send me a photo though!

  • Credit Card Info: Handled securely by Squarespace’s payment processors. I never store it. When you make a purchase from me on this website, I use Squarespace Payments as the payment solution. Squarespace Payments is a fully integrated, native payment solution provided to me by my online store service provider Squarespace. Squarespace Payments makes use of the following third party service providers which will also receive your personal information and process it in accordance with their privacy policies:

    • Stripe - payment processing services. You can read Stripe’s privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.

    • Sift - fraud monitoring and detection services. You can read Sift’s privacy policy at https://sift.com/service-privacy.

    • Sorry this bit was serious, but as your financial security is important I felt I had to stick with the proper message. I don’t want to risk your personal financial information, having a third party provider is the lowest risk way for me to be able to make, sell and share products online.

How I Use Your Information

To Enhance Your Experience

  • Email: you might get the odd email from this site, here are the reasons why:

    • Apparently you will receive an email to remind you that you left one of my products in a shopping cart if you entered your email but closed the browser before checking out. Got to try and close out those sales, plus devices run out of battery every once in a while… we’ve all been there.

    • I (or rather the little robots who help run this site) may email you with messages about your order or account activity, e.g. if you’ve made a purchase or your order has been posted. It’s not possible to unsubscribe from these messages, they’re automated and provided by the little robots locked up at Squarespace who help make this website work.

    • If I ever start a newsletter I might send you photography tips or updates on my activities and travels. I’ll have asked you first if you want to sign up, I find it annoying when I bought something to then find I ended up on a mailing list, so I won’t share that pain with you! You chose if you want to opt in, I won’t do it for you.

  • Fonts: I had hoped this list would be shorter, but the internet now is insanely complicated! Apparently to make sure you see fonts on this site it uses Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts. To properly display this site to you, these third parties may receive personal information about you, including:

    • Information about your browser, network, or device

    • Information about this site and the page you’re viewing on it

    • Your IP address

    • I’m sorry about this, life was easier when everyone just used Times New Roman.

  • Cookies: Sadly not the chocolate chip kind, that would be amazing - why didn’t Tim Berners Lee think of that when he invented the internet?! These cookies are much more boring and ensure this site functions properly. You can disable them, but some features might not work as well, apparently.

Site Improvement

  • Analytics: To help me understand how visitors interact with this site to improve user experience. All data is anonymised.

Information I Share

Third parties

  • The only third party integrations on this site are;

    • If you’ve used apple pay or PayPal or similar at checkout for a product. I don’t have a choice about this as its down to how all these websites work in the background to make the world go around.

    • The instagram logo in the top right hand side of the site that’s connected to my only entry into Mark Zuckerberg’s evil empire. If you’d rather not click that sucker then just go to instagram on your phone and find me via @tomdauben.

    • I’ve listed elsewhere on this page how Squarespace, as the provider of this website, and its payment partners, use your data. Otherwise I don’t share your personal information with third parties. Ever.

Your Choices

  • Unsubscribe Anytime: If I do a newsletter you are perfectly entitled to opt out whenever you want. No hard feelings. Maybe some hard feelings. I’ll get over it.

  • Disable Cookies: Adjust your browser settings to reject cookies. Note: This may affect site functionality, I don’t know how as i’m not that clever - squarespace suggested this may be a thing, so i’m including it for completeness.

Security

This site uses industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information. Squarespace ensures your data is handled securely.

Changes to This Policy

I might update our policy occasionally. Any changes will be posted here.
