Dartmoor Unedited: A new landscape photography book of Dartmoor National Park

For a while now people has asked me whether I could do a bunch of things with my images:

“When are you going to submit some photos to the Countryfile calendar?”

“Are you going to sell some prints?”

“Why don’t you make your own calendar?”

But none of them really appealed as a project until someone said this to me:

“You should make a book of your photos”

At face value it’s not a fundamentally different statement to the ones that precede it. But, this wasn’t a family member, this was someone who had no vested interest in saying this to me other than simply being encouraging.

I love books, I enjoy the feel and experience of looking at images offline in a more tactile form. I started looking through the hundreds of images i’d accumulated of Dartmoor National Park. The more I looked the more I realised It would be relatively easy to explain the landscape of the national park through my photos in a curated form.

Thank you to all the people who have encouraged me. To the people asking all those questions, and to the person who made me see the potential.

I’ve learnt a lot doing this, its been really rewarding mix of fun and challenging. And its spurred plenty of ideas for other projects and products for the future.

This is a book about the landscape of Dartmoor through the medium of authentic images, but its also a start of more.

The result is 153 pages, hardbound in an A4 book containing 137 images and a multitude of facts, stories and my thoughts about Dartmoor National Park.

To make life hard for myself I wanted to ensure the production of a book had as minimal environmental impact as possible.

So, it has been produced carbon neutrally, on sustainable papers and printed using vegetable inks. I’ll share more on the steps i’ve taken to reduce the environmental impact of this product soon.

The content is split into how I perceive the landscape, habitats and species of Dartmoor, representing its open spaces, woodlands, rivers, rock formations and moody weather.
